In this course we’ll explore the craft of poetry and prose. We will learn to explore the landscape of where and how our personal writing touches on the cultural (social and political) aspects of our lives. We will discover how to share our experiences in ways that work to include rather than exclude the world around us. We will read examples and identify elements of craft. We’ll examine our own experiences to highlight themes and perspectives, considering approaches to poetry and prose that have social impact.

Kristine McRae and Marie Tozier are recent graduates of the low-residency master of fine arts program at the University of Alaska Anchorage. Kristine owns Bering Tea & Coffee, and Marie is the registration coordinator at Northwest Campus.
